La estructura
Solo se mueve will:
You will be working. → Will you be working?
Las respuestas cortas usan will
Will she be joining us? — Yes, she will. / No, she won’t.
La pregunta que pregunta sin pedir
Es el mejor truco de este tiempo. La pregunta en continuous consulta un hecho; la simple hace una petición:
- Will you be going to the post office? — pregunto qué vas a hacer.
- Will you go to the post office? — te pido que vayas.
Como la primera no obliga a nada, es la opción cortés por defecto en situaciones de servicio: Will you be staying another night? Will you be paying by card?
Comprobar antes de pedir
La pregunta en continuous es a menudo la primera mitad de un favor:
Will you be driving past the station? — Yes. — Could you drop me off?
Dónde se tuerce para un hispanohablante
En español la cortesía se hace con el condicional o con una fórmula («¿te importaría…?», «¿podrías…?»). En inglés existe además esta vía, y es la que usa el personal de hoteles y tiendas. Reconocerla evita entender como petición lo que solo era una consulta.
