El orden habitual
Cinco huecos: palabra interrogativa — will — sujeto — be — la forma en -ing.
How long will you be staying?
Cuando who es el sujeto
No se intercambia nada:
- Who will be meeting us at the airport?
- What will be happening on the main stage?
La consulta neutra, con palabra interrogativa
Igual que en las preguntas de sí o no, la versión en continuous consulta en lugar de pedir:
- When will you be leaving? — ¿a qué hora te sale?
- When will you leave? — ¿cuándo has decidido irte?
La primera la hace un recepcionista; la segunda, un anfitrión impaciente.
How long will you be
Una fórmula fija que significa «¿cuánto te falta?»:
How long will you be? — se contesta Two minutes.
Dónde se tuerce para un hispanohablante
«¿Cuánto vas a tardar?» es How long will you be?, sin ningún verbo más: la frase inglesa parece incompleta y no lo está.
Y «¿dónde os vais a alojar?» es Where will you be staying? — con be y -ing, no Where will you stay?, que suena a decisión por tomar.
