La estructura
Not se mete justo detrás de am, is o are:
He is not going to agree. → He isn’t going to agree.
Las dos contracciones están disponibles para is y are: he isn’t going to o he*’s not** going to*. Para am solo hay I*’m not***.
Cancelar un plan
El negativo anuncia muy a menudo que algo que se pretendía queda anulado:
We aren’t going to move after all.
After all, any more y in the end son los acompañantes habituales.
Una negativa rotunda
Con I, el negativo suele significar una decisión de no hacerlo, y es firme:
I*’m not going to** argue about this.*
Predecir que algo no pasará
Con pruebas a la vista, el negativo funciona igual que el afirmativo:
There’s no queue. We*’re not going to** be late.*
Dónde se tuerce para un hispanohablante
«No voy a discutir esto» coloca el «no» delante de todo; el inglés lo mete entre el auxiliar y going to: I*’m not going to** argue*. Poner I am going to not argue se entiende pero no es lo normal.
Y el calco de doesn’t: «no va a venir» es She isn’t going to come, nunca She doesn’t going to come.
