La estructura
Dos palabras y nada más cambia:
I will finish it. He will finish it. They will finish it.
Al hablar, la forma corta ’ll es lo normal detrás de un pronombre: I’ll, you’ll, he’ll, we’ll, they’ll. Detrás de un sustantivo se usa menos al escribir: Anna will call, mejor que Anna’ll call.
shall
Shall sobrevive en dos sitios del inglés actual:
- ofrecimientos y propuestas con I y we: Shall I open the window? / Shall we go?
- normas y contratos formales: The tenant shall maintain the property.
En todo lo demás, will es la opción corriente.
Probably, certainly, I think
Como will es a menudo una suposición, suele venir acompañado de una palabra que dice cuánto estás seguro:
It’ll probably be late. I think they’ll agree. She’ll definitely come.
Fíjate dónde va probably: detrás de will, delante del verbo.
Promesas y ofrecimientos
La primera persona es donde will hace su trabajo más característico:
I*’ll** pay you back on Friday. I**’ll** carry that for you.*
Ninguna de las dos estaba planeada antes de empezar la frase, y por eso going to sonaría mal.
Dónde se tuerce para un hispanohablante
El español coloca «probablemente» con mucha libertad; el inglés lo mete entre will y el verbo: It will probably rain, no Probably it will rain como primera opción ni It will rain probably.
Y la forma corta ’ll no tiene equivalente en español, así que al escribir se olvida. No es informal de más: en conversación I will completo suena enfático, como si insistieras.

Errores que evitar
Incorrecto: I will to help you. correcto: I will help you.
Detrás de will no hay to.
Incorrecto: Tomorrow it will raining. correcto: Tomorrow it will rain.
Will lleva el verbo simple. Para una acción en curso haría falta will be raining.
