Dos patrones en un mismo tema
Esto es lo que hace incómodo al grupo. Must y should son modales y se intercambian con el sujeto:
Must I sign it? — Should I sign it?
Have to es un grupo verbal corriente y necesita auxiliar:
Do I have to sign it? — Does she have to sign it? — Did they have to sign it?
Qué pregunta se hace de verdad
Must I…? es raro y puede sonar de mala gana, casi a queja. En inglés corriente la pregunta sobre la obligación es casi siempre Do I have to…?
Should I…?, en cambio, es extremadamente frecuente, porque pedir consejo es algo de todos los días.
Contestar
Se repite el auxiliar de la pregunta:
- Do I have to come? — No, you don’t.
- Should I come? — Yes, you should.
- Must I come? — No, you needn’t.
Fíjate en la última: el negativo natural de must es needn’t, no mustn’t, porque mustn’t significaría que te lo prohíben.
Preguntar por el pasado
Solo have to tiene forma de pregunta en pasado:
Did you have to wait long?
Dónde se tuerce para un hispanohablante
«¿Tengo que…?» lleva do y «¿debo…?» no. Es el reflejo que hay que construir: Do I have to sign? frente a Must I sign?
Y la respuesta a Must I come?: en español se contestaría «no, no hace falta», y en inglés es No, you needn’t — no No, you mustn’t, que significaría que te lo prohíben.

Errores que evitar
Incorrecto: Do you must go? correcto: Must you go? / Do you have to go?
Must es un modal y no lleva nunca do. Si quieres el patrón con do, cambia a have to.
Incorrecto: Does he has to work? correcto: Does he have to work?
Does ya lleva la tercera persona, así que have vuelve a su forma simple.
Incorrecto: Must I to come? correcto: Must I come?
Detrás de un modal no hay to.
