La estructura
Dos palabras y una decisión:
The lawn is mowed twice a month. The lawns are mowed twice a month.
Sustantivos que parecen plurales y no lo son
Estos llevan is, y ahí tropieza todo el mundo:
The news is… Mathematics is… Twenty euros is… The team is…
Añadir a quien lo hace
La construcción con by va al final y es opcional:
The invoices are issued by the accounts office.
Quítala siempre que no se sepa, no importe o sea obvio quién lo hace:
The invoices are issued on the first working day.
get en lugar de be
En lenguaje hablado informal, get sustituye a be para cosas que le pasan a alguien, sobre todo las desagradables:
The parcels get delivered to the wrong flat all the time.
Es correcto y muy frecuente, pero no pega en escritura formal.
Dónde se tuerce para un hispanohablante
El get pasivo no tiene paralelo en español y por eso cuesta producirlo, aunque se entienda al leerlo. «Siempre me entregan los paquetes en el piso equivocado» se dice de forma natural como My parcels always get delivered to the wrong flat: la construcción con get es justo la que usa un nativo en conversación.
Y la tercera forma no se puede dejar sin poner: «el pan se hace aquí» es The bread is baked here. The bread is bake no significa nada, y The bread is baking dice que el pan se está horneando ahora, que es otra cosa.

Incorrecto: The news are published every hour. correcto: The news is published every hour.
News parece plural pero cuenta como una sola cosa.
Incorrecto: The samples is stored in a cold room. correcto: The samples are stored in a cold room.
