La estructura
Se intercambian el auxiliar y el sujeto:
The forms are checked. → Are the forms checked?
Las respuestas cortas usan be
Is the hall cleaned daily? — Yes, it is. / No, it isn’t.
Preguntas con wh-
La palabra interrogativa va primero y el resto sigue el mismo intercambio:
- Where is the bread baked?
- How often are the filters changed?
- Why is this door kept locked?
Preguntar quién lo hace
El inglés pone la preposición al final, lo que al principio resulta raro pero es la forma normal:
Who is this book written by?
La alternativa formal la mueve delante: By whom is this book written? — correcta, pero poco usada fuera de la lengua escrita.
Una prueba útil
Si dudas entre is y does, mira el verbo. Una tercera forma significa pasiva y lleva is o are. Un verbo simple significa activa y lleva does o do.
Dónde se tuerce para un hispanohablante
«¿Quién lo ha escrito?» se traduce con la preposición al final: Who is it written by? En español la preposición va delante («¿por quién?»), y dejarla al final parece un error cuando es justo lo correcto.
Y hay que separar clean de cleaned: «¿se limpian estas habitaciones todos los días?» es Are these rooms cleaned…? Con clean la pregunta pasa a ser si están limpias, y en español las dos se dicen casi igual.

Errores que evitar
Incorrecto: Does the post delivered before nine? correcto: Is the post delivered before nine?
La pasiva ya tiene auxiliar, así que does no hace falta.
Incorrecto: Are these rooms clean every day? correcto: Are these rooms cleaned every day?
Sin la tercera forma la frase pregunta si las habitaciones están limpias, no si alguien las limpia.
