La estructura
Se intercambian los dos primeros elementos de la afirmación:
You are listening. → Are you listening?
La forma en -ing no se mueve y no cambia.
Las respuestas cortas usan be
Is he working? — Yes, he is. / No, he isn’t.
Repetir la frase entera — Yes, he is working — es correcto pero suena pesado.
Preguntar por lo acordado
Como el tiempo cubre los planes cerrados, muchas de sus preguntas son sobre el futuro cercano:
- Are you doing anything on Saturday?
- Is she coming to the meeting?
La respuesta dice una hora, no una intención: Yes, at three.
Qué auxiliar necesita esta frase
Mira el verbo principal. Si acaba en -ing, la pregunta lleva be. Si está en forma simple, lleva do o does:
- Is she working? — continuous
- Does she work here? — simple
Dónde se tuerce para un hispanohablante
«¿Está trabajando?» no cambia el orden en español y en inglés sí: Is she working? Sin el intercambio, She is working? suena a incredulidad.
Y la respuesta corta no admite contracción: a Are you listening? se contesta Yes, I am, nunca Yes, I’m. En español la respuesta corta es «sí» a secas, así que esta regla no tiene de dónde salir y hay que aprenderla aparte.

Errores que evitar
Incorrecto: Does she coming? correcto: Is she coming?
El auxiliar es be. Does pertenece al present simple.
Incorrecto: Are you going to the party tomorrow? Yes, I'm. correcto: Yes, I am.
Una respuesta corta no puede acabar en contracción.
