La estructura
Pon not justo detrás del verbo:
I am not sure. She is not sure. They are not sure.
No se pide prestado ningún auxiliar, porque be puede llevar la negación él solo.
Dos maneras de acortar, y un hueco
Para is y are hay dos contracciones y las dos son correctas:
- he isn’t o he*’s not***
- they aren’t o they*’re not***
La diferencia es el énfasis: he’s not ready carga un poco más el not.
Para am solo hay una opción. Amn’t no existe en inglés estándar, así que la contracción se va al sujeto: I’m not.
En las preguntas el negativo se parte
En una pregunta negativa la contracción se queda con el verbo, pero la forma completa se separa:
- Isn’t she coming?
- Is she not coming? — más formal, y algo más seco.
no en lugar de not
El negativo también se puede construir sobre el sustantivo:
- There isn’t any milk.
- There is no milk.
Las dos son correctas. La segunda es más rotunda y más frecuente al escribir.
Dónde se tuerce para un hispanohablante
El hueco de amn’t. El español niega igual en todas las personas, así que cuesta aceptar que I’m not no tenga pareja. No hay regla: es un hueco del idioma y se aprende tal cual.
El orden. «No están viniendo» pone el «no» delante; el inglés lo pone detrás del verbo. They not are coming es el calco directo.
Y no hay do. «No es profesora» es She isn’t a teacher. Después de meses practicando doesn’t, cuesta recordar que con be no hace falta.

Errores que evitar
Incorrecto: He doesn't be at home. correcto: He isn't at home.
Be construye su propio negativo. Añadir do o does nunca es correcto.
Incorrecto: I amn't ready. correcto: I'm not ready.
La contracción amn't no existe en inglés estándar. Se acorta el sujeto: I'm not.
Incorrecto: They not are coming. correcto: They aren't coming.
Not va detrás del verbo, nunca delante.
