The pattern
Not goes between will and be, and contracts to won’t be:
They will not be working. → They won’t be working.
Declining without refusing
The negative is a soft way of saying no, because it reports a fact rather than a decision:
I won’t be joining you for lunch. — I simply will not be there.
Compare I won’t join you, which sounds like a refusal.
Warning about availability
The commonest everyday use:
- The office won’t be opening until ten on Monday.
- I won’t be answering emails while I’m away.
State verbs again
For a state, use the plain Future Simple:
We won’t know until Thursday. — not won’t be knowing.
