450 fill-in-the-gap exercises, 45 tests of ten

The past participle is the third form in verb tables: written, gone, built. It never changes with the subject.

The usual order
Five slots: question word — will — subject — have — the past participle.
How many miles will we have driven by tonight?
Questions about quantity
Because the tense counts what is complete at a deadline, most of its questions begin with how many or how much:
- How many applications will they have received by the closing date?
- How much will the repairs have cost by the end?
When who is the subject
Nothing swaps:
- Who will have finished by lunchtime?
- What will have changed by then?
The deadline is still required
Even in a question, the by phrase has to be there or implied. What will you have done? only makes sense if both speakers already know the deadline being discussed.

Mistakes to avoid

Will goes before the subject.
Wrong: Who will he have finished first? correct: Who will have finished first?
When who is the one finishing, there is no second subject.
