Duas perguntas
Quantos? Um leva this ou that; mais de um leva these ou those.
A que distância? Perto leva this ou these; longe leva that ou those.
A tabela acima é toda a gramática do tema.
|---|---|
| este livro (meu) | this book |
| esse livro (seu) | that book |
| aquele livro (lá) | that book |
- that morning — outra manhã, no passado
- these days — hoje em dia
- those days — naquela época
Então in those days quer dizer «muito tempo atrás», e at this point quer dizer «agora».
Sozinhos
As quatro palavras funcionam sem substantivo depois:
I’ll take this. Those are mine. What is that?
Ao telefone
Uma convenção fixa que vale saber:
Hello, this is Anna. — apresentando-se Is that Tom? — perguntando com quem fala
O português diz «é a Anna» e «é o Tom?»
The train was canceled. That explains why he was late.
