As respostas curtas usam will
Will she be joining us? — Yes, she will. / No, she won’t.
A pergunta que pergunta sem pedir
Este é o truque mais útil do tempo. A pergunta contínua indaga por um fato; a simples faz um pedido:
- Will you be going to the post office? — estou perguntando o que você vai fazer.
- Will you go to the post office? — estou pedindo que você vá.
Como a primeira não impõe obrigação a ninguém, ela é o padrão educado no atendimento: Will you be staying another night? Will you be paying by card?
Sondar antes de pedir
A pergunta contínua é muitas vezes a primeira metade de um favor:
Will you be driving past the station? — Yes. — Could you drop me off?
