Not vem depois de be, antes de going to.

O padrão

Not entra imediatamente depois de am, is ou are:

He is not going to agree. → He isn’t going to agree.

As duas contrações estão disponíveis para is e are: he isn’t going to ou he*’s not** going to*. Para am existe só I*’m not***.

Note onde o português põe a negação: «não vou contar» — antes de «vou». O inglês põe depois do am: I am not going to tell.

Cancelando um plano

A negativa mais frequentemente anuncia que algo antes pretendido está desfeito:

After all, any more e in the end são os companheiros de sempre.

Uma recusa

Com I, a negativa muitas vezes quer dizer uma decisão de não fazer, e é firme:

I*’m not going to** argue about this.*

Prevendo que algo não vai acontecer

Com evidência visível, a negativa funciona igual à afirmativa:

There’s no queue. We*’re not going to** be late.*
