Onde vai a forma oblíqua
Dois lugares, e os dois são mecânicos:
- depois do verbo: I saw her yesterday.
- depois de preposição: Give it to them. This is for us. Between you and me.
I her saw não existe.
between you and me
É a expressão mais discutida do inglês, e a resposta é simples: between é preposição, então vem a forma oblíqua. Between you and I é um excesso de correção de quem ouviu dizer que me soa malcuidado.
O mesmo vale para for, with, to, from, after, without:
without him, after us, with her
- She invited John and me. → She invited me. ✓
- John and I were invited. → I was invited. ✓
Funciona sempre e não exige saber gramática.
Dois objetos
Muitos verbos levam dois. A ordem muda conforme você use to ou não:
She gave me the book. / She gave the book to me.
Com dois pronomes, o segundo padrão é o natural: She gave it to me, e não She gave me it.
Depois de than e as
Formalmente, than I e as I; na fala comum, than me e as me:
He is taller than I am. — o mais seguro He is taller than me. — fala normal
